The Art Law

The law of monuments and works of art covers architectural monuments, archaeological monuments, movable monuments (e.g. paintings, sculptures, furniture), as well as cultural landscapes, parks and historic gardens. Undoubtedly, however, it is the market for works of art that has experienced the greatest boom in this decade.
In recent years, there has been an increase in interest in works of art among investors, collectors and art lovers. This has encouraged international auction houses to enter the Polish market. The dynamism in this field should not come as a surprise, as Poland, on the one hand, is a country with a rich artistic tradition, particularly in the fields of painting and sculpture, and on the other hand, the Polish art market offers works by both esteemed artists from past eras and recognised contemporary artists. A considerable contribution to the building of Polish collections was made by landowners, who unfortunately lost, as a result of the Nazi occupation and then the land reform, tens of thousands of works of art on the Polish scale. Many of these remain lost to this day, which is why we consider it a great success to find and restitute every work of art for the benefit of our clients.
